Steve Smith is the Head of IT at United Educators, where he leads enterprise technology strategy and execution across software development, IT operations, infrastructure, and cybersecurity. He is responsible for modernizing core platforms, advancing cloud and infrastructure strategy, strengthening cybersecurity maturity, and ensuring disciplined engineering and operational practices support long-term organizational growth.

At United Educators, Steve partners closely with executive leadership to align technology investments with business priorities, reduce risk, and build a secure, scalable, and resilient technology foundation. He is focused on combining strong governance and operational fundamentals with forward-looking innovation—positioning the organization to responsibly adopt emerging capabilities such as GenAI and agentic AI while maintaining high standards for data quality, architecture, and security.

Prior to United Educators, Steve held progressive leadership roles at GEICO, rising from Director to Vice President of IT. He led the design and launch of GEICO’s award-winning mobile application, helping establish the company as a market leader in customer adoption and app quality. He also spearheaded the migration from mainframe to cloud platforms, established DevOps and CI/CD practices to accelerate delivery and improve system availability, introduced agile methodologies to support rapid growth, and championed automation initiatives including robotic process automation to drive efficiency and enhance customer experience.
