Michael Joseph has spent over a decade in BSA/AML and OFAC compliance, first as an investigator and later as an auditor and advisor. He now leads product strategy for the Americas at Napier AI, an anti-financial crime technology firm, where he works with regulated institutions on their financial crimes compliance programs, including sanctions screening and transaction monitoring, and the broader application of AI and machine learning. He focuses on connecting regulatory requirements to the technology built to meet them.
As an investigator at JPMorgan Chase and Standard Chartered Bank, MJ handled special investigations tied to subpoenas and law enforcement requests, along with major cases tied to terrorism financing and trade-based money laundering. In consulting at KPMG and Grant Thornton, he advised global financial institutions, crypto and digital asset firms, and e-commerce companies on control effectiveness, internal audit and independent testing, including consent order validation and regulatory exam readiness.
MJ writes and speaks regularly on US financial crime and sanctions regulation. He is CAMS certified, has served as an intelligence specialist in the US Navy Reserve and holds degrees in English Literature and Political Science from Rutgers University.
